Abrasive Points - Unitized Material (the new Roll Sander!)
Unitized material is essentially baked and compressed abrasive nylon (scotchbrite). This makes it just as abrasive but much harder and longer lasting.
Most jewellers are familiar with the 'roll sander' a little roll of wet and dry on a 3/32'' spindle. Unitized red will give the same result as a 400g roll sander and last longer as you don't have to remove layers.
Unitized material is coarse but leaves a fine finish so there is no need to work through the grits.
Use for blending solder joins, taking out scratches, cleaning up a casting, roughing out the inside of rings and evening the surface ready for Tripoli polishing or a 220g radial wheel. Keep moving to avoid creating an uneven surface and retain the profile of the piece.
